Billie Eilish's Grammy-nominated single, "What Was I Made For," is currently in contention for five Grammy Awards, spanning categories such as Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Song Written for Visual Media, and Best Music Video. The talented songstress is actively engaged in promotional activities for her song.
During a conversation with Vanity Fair, Billie delved into the creative process behind the track, revealing, "When we were crafting this, we were decidedly channeling a character." She elaborated on the songwriting approach, explaining, "We composed the song from the perspective of the character, exploring her life and interpreting the world through her unique lens and experiences."
Billie's brother and co-writer of the song, Finneas, shared insights into the creative mindset, stating, "I believe it serves as a license to exhibit a bit more courage than you might muster when crafting something perceived as autobiographical."
The acclaimed artist, with seven Grammy wins under her belt, acknowledges her Barbie single as one of the most challenging songs she has ever recorded. Reflecting on the process, she revealed that she deliberately opted for a tough tone, choosing to deliver the song "almost as if you were in the midst of tears and then transitioning into singing."
